This is a rustic campground. It's wooded and management carefully controls decades-old trees being cut down to eliminate pine needles or create a slightly bigger site. As for the roads, do I sometimes wish they were paved? Sure. Am I more often thankful they're NOT because it helps controls the speed of people flying around in cars and trucks in a family campground? Absolutely.
Worst experience of any campground. Made reservations using Thousand Trails a month in advance for a full hookup site. Arrived late on the reserved date after a long 14 hour drive. Since it was after hours we used a handheld mic to obtain a code for entrance and we were told to "...find an available spot" After driving around the campground for a good 15 minutes in the dark we finally found a few available sites. We started to back into one of the sites when another camper stopped us and informed us that the few sites we had found were new and not actually tied into the utilities. A quick check of the few sites we had found, confirmed that none of them had water or electricity. After driving around for a few more minutes we decided to leave and get back on the road and ended up staying at a KOA.
We where here with our family. We got two sites and It was enough for 6 familly to fit. We had around 7 tents. We got lots of catfish and so far this was the best camp sites we ever been.
Beautiful lake and pool. The roads could use some improvements and they are clearly proud of the trees. The site was difficult to maneuver into due to the trees and overall layout. Cell coverage was fair here (2-3 bars on both AT&T & Verizon). Several golf carts within the park. Site not quiet big enough for easy parking of both motorhome and towed vehicle.
After driving 14 hours, when we arrived the guy on the microphone said to just find a site. After driving around for almost an hour we finally found a site but there was no water or electricity. Very poor setup.
So I see several reviews (many from the same person) talking about how they were guaranteed a spot for their XX foot camper, or guaranteed a "full hookup" spot, worst experience ever, etc. As a camper with a seasonal spot at this campground, I feel compelled to respond with my own review.
Is this a perfect campground? No, and I've never seen one that is. If you're coming from an asphalt perfectly level with no trees campsite in Florida, you're probably not going to like it. If you want a campground with character, charm, friendly staff and lots of people who consider each other family and have been coming here for 20 years, then this is the place.
This, as with most (all?) Thousand Trails campgrounds, is a first-come, first-served campground. There ARE full hookup spots, and there ARE many sites with water views, and there ARE many sites which can accommodate large campers. What there is NOT is an endless supply of each. If you arrive here on a Friday afternoon in the summer expecting to find one of those, you may very well be disappointed.
